- ANDREW RICHARDSON

A woman was flown to a hospital in serious condition Dec. 4 due to smoke inhalation injuries caused by a devastating apartment complex fire in Wal- dorf, authorities reported. The 83-yearold woman, a resident of the two-story apartment complex, was found by firefighters in her bedroom.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, a resident of the apartment building located on the 12100 block of Ell Lane reported the fire after observing smoke coming from the complex, a news release indi- cated. About 25 firefighters from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding area responded to the scene and got the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. At some point, firefighters entered the building and found the 83-year-old woman, who was then transported via medical helicopter to a hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was accidental, caused by combustibles that were left too close to a heating element in an apartment living room, fire marshals reported.
