Woman in­jured in apart­ment fire

A woman was flown to a hospi­tal in se­ri­ous con­di­tion Dec. 4 due to smoke in­hala­tion in­juries caused by a dev­as­tat­ing apart­ment com­plex fire in Wal- dorf, au­thor­i­ties re­ported. The 83-yearold woman, a res­i­dent of the two-story apart­ment com­plex, was found by fire­fight­ers in her bed­room.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, a res­i­dent of the apart­ment build­ing lo­cated on the 12100 block of Ell Lane re­ported the fire af­ter ob­serv­ing smoke com­ing from the com­plex, a news re­lease indi- cated. About 25 fire­fight­ers from the Wal­dorf Vol­un­teer Fire De­part­ment and sur­round­ing area re­sponded to the scene and got the fire un­der con­trol in ap­prox­i­mately 20 min­utes. At some point, fire­fight­ers en­tered the build­ing and found the 83-year-old woman, who was then trans­ported via med­i­cal he­li­copter to a hospi­tal.

A pre­lim­i­nary in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­vealed that the fire was ac­ci­den­tal, caused by com­bustibles that were left too close to a heat­ing el­e­ment in an apart­ment liv­ing room, fire mar­shals re­ported.
