Thanks to ‘blanketeers,’ donors for a successful Make A Blanket Day

- Mary Hancock, Waldorf The writer is the coordinator of Charles County Project Linus.

Charles County Project Linus recently held our annual Make A Blanket Day, a day during which we have a blanket-making marathon in order to make and/or collect as many new, hand-made blankets as possible in a day to donate to sick, injured, traumatized children, age infant through 17.

Forty dedicated “blanketeers” and 420 blankets later, we are now wanting to let everyone know that this would not have been possible without — and we genuinely appreciate — the support of many community organizations and establishments. At the risk of forgetting someone, we would like to thank Apple Spice Junction, most of all, for donating and catering a delicious lunch for the event. Gift cards were donated by BJ’s Warehouse, IHOP, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King. We also appreciate monetary donations received in the past from Westlake Village Association, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82, the Maryland Association of Realtors, and OES, Grace Chapter 21. We appreciate the space for blanket delivery and pick up provided by Material Girls Quilt Boutique and Century 21 New Millennium in Waldorf. We feel blessed to feel the warm support of the community as they assist us in our efforts to cover these children with “hugs of love.”
