Open house at Fire Depart­ment

Meet the fire­fight­ers and Sparky the Fire Dog at this week­end’s Marysville Fire Depart­ment Open House Cel­e­bra­tion and Pan­cake break­fast dur­ing Na­tional Fire Pre­ven­tion Week.

The open house, from 8 a.m.-noon Satur­day at 107 Ninth St., in­cludes tours of the fire sta­tion. Ad­mis­sion is free.

The pan­cake break­fast, $5, in­cludes sausage, fruit, cof­fee and juice. Money raised ben­e­fits the Fire­fight­ers Burn In­sti­tute. and Wal­nut Street.

First 5 Ex­press, for par­ents of chil­dren ages 5 years and younger, brings its bilin­gual tour with a va­ri­ety of hands-on ac­tiv­i­ties to Marysville and Gri­d­ley.

The statewide First 5 Cal­i­for­nia pro­gram em­pha­sizes the im­por­tance of talk­ing, read­ing and singing in ev­ery­day life and its im­pact on a child’s early brain de­vel­op­ment.

The pro­gram is in Marysville from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tues­day at 303 Sec­ond St.

It’s visit in Gri­d­ley is from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Satur­day at Rail­road Park, at Wash­ing­ton and Hazel streets.

Ac­tiv­i­ties for par­ents in­clude ways to keep their chil­dren en­gaged and mak­ing healthy life­style choices.

The tour also in­cludes story time ses­sions and a child-friendly li­brary.

The vis­its are co-sponsored by First 5 Yuba and First 5 Butte County in their re­spec­tive ar­eas.
