- Appeal-Democrat

The Williams High boys basketball team fell short of winning a second straight section title with a 70-56 loss to Trinity in the Northern Section Division V championship game on Saturday night at Shasta College in Redding.

The No. 3-seeded Wolves opened up a 3720 lead at halftime and held off the topseeded Yellowjackets in the second half to snap Williams’ 11-game winning streak and take the title back to Weaverville.

“They just shot the lights out. We played decent defense and had a hand in their face, but they didn’t miss much,” said Williams coach Tony Hermann. “It was just a bad time to have an off night. We just got outshot.”

Alex Velazquez led the way for the Yellowjackets once again by pouring in a team-high 28 points. Anthony Davalos added 15 points and sophomore Cesar Lopez came off the bench to knock down two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter while finishing with six.
