Re: Gold Sox baseball

Local collegiate summer wood bat baseball teams looking for host parents.

Once again, I feel that I need to remind everyone that May 30 is the opening day of Marysville Gold Sox baseball. What a great time of the year for everyone of all ages to come to the ballpark and enjoy an evening watching some really great collegiate baseball. Right here in Marysville by the beautiful Ellis Lake.

We will have top collegiate baseball players traveling here to compete at a high level of play against five other teams equally competitive. These young men are hand picked by their coaches to play summer league baseball to better themselves at their positions no matter where they play on the field. It is always better to learn and hear instructions from another highly qualified manager and coaches.

Some of the guys know each other but most of them don’t. They step right in and play quality ball like they have been playing together all along.

There is still time to consider being a host parent to one or two of the young men for most of their summer. Sharing in their joy, development, as well as their ups and downs, when they do good and sometimes not so good. They won’t be at home much of the day, most days, due to their travel schedule. As well as trips to the gym, or just a little free time once in a while. When they are there, you all get to sit down to a barbecue dinner or go for pizza, whatever.

They mostly like everything and are not hard to please if you do cook for them. They always say thank you, and clean up the dishes, trying to keep your home like their parents’ homes.

This will be my 15th season being a host parent, and hosting two or three ball players each season is just about the greatest thing I have ever done.

They all are super great young men and our manager and theirs from their colleges pick fine, upstanding and polite young men. You get to know all the players, as well as their parents usually, and make many new friends each year. These friendships will last forever and also provide places for us to go visit, maybe watching them play ball at their colleges and universities.

They always are so appreciative of your visit and support. You become their summer moms and dads and they always appreciate us being in the stands.

If you are considering applying to become a host parent, please call the Marysville Gold Sox office at the corner of 10th and E streets in Marysville, at 741-3600.
