A Marysville official said the high water that inundated Beckwourth Riverfront Park caused an estimated $3 million in damages.

Acting City Services Director Denis Cook said the city has insurance, which will help pay for the damage, and contacted the Federal Emergency Management Agency about getting additional financial help for park repair. But officials are waiting for the wet season to end before beginning repairs.

“One thing that has changed since water receded is that there’s been some sloughing off of the riverbank by the city sewer pond on the Yuba River near the mouth of where it meets the Feather River,” Cook said. “When water in the Feather River dropped, so did the Yuba River.”

Cook said there’s no damage to the city’s sewer service itself, which is on the land side of the levee, and estimated the damage to the pond could be upward of $500,000.

“Until we’re sure the season has passed, we’re not going to put a bunch of money into it, because if the water goes back up there could be more damage,” Cook said.

He said there are signs and fences that have fallen down, in addition to road damage and sand everywhere.

“As far as individual damage goes, we can’t do too much about that because it’s private property,” Cook said.

Cook said most of the people who operate businesses in the park got their equipment out before the water level rose.
