Re: Evacuation thanks

My name is Donald Lewis and I live at the Butte Christian Manor in Marysville.

We were told first by phone that we were told to evacuate, but since Jan told me they had a plan I thought it was best to stay put and wait. And sure enough, an employee came by and said to meet in the dining room, that we were going to evacuate. We waited and then we were told to go back to our rooms and we would be told when the buses arrived. Jan came and got me when it was time to go.

We loaded up and I am 76 years old and this was my first evacuation ever. I was amazed how well it went.

The buses came and away we went. The young men who drove our bus were firemen and all the firemen were first class. The trip was smooth and really nice.

When we arrived at the Nevada County fairgrounds it was amazing, they were ready for us. The fist thing they did was feed us. Then they took us to the building where we would sleep. It was like two large dorm rooms and they had a nurse’s station manned by Red Cross nurses who were angels. They checked our needs 24/7, they called EMTs twice for our group. Took one to the hospital for more treatment and brought him back the next day.

As this was my first time I would say I was well cared for, fed all the time and met some great people.

I felt safe and well cared for. They asked all the time if we needed anything or if we felt OK.

I want to give a great thank you to all the first responders who made this evacuation almost enjoyable. God bless everyone for keeping us safe.
