Indians cruise past Natomas

Trying its best to not run up the score, the Marysville High baseball team couldn’t stop piling up the runs in a 24-0 thrashing of Natomas in a Golden Empire League game in Sacramento on Friday.

The Indians opened up a 10-0 lead in the second inning, and while they let up on the basepaths and by moving up only one base on balls hit to the fence, the runs just kept coming before the contest finally ended in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.

Brian Sullivan went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Matthew Chiono finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs to help pace Marysville’s 18-hit attack.

Alex Stevenson was 3 for 5 with two RBIs, John Flores drove in two runs, Taryn Dolan went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI, and Gary Cooper added a pair of hits.

Dolan also picked up the win on the mound, striking out eight and allowing only one hit over four innings of work.

The Indians (5-2, 4-2 GEL) continue league play on Wednesday in Citrus Heights against Mesa Verde. West Campus 12, Lindhurst 0, 5 inn.

In Olivehurst – The Blazers fell into 8-0 hole after the first inning and gave up four more runs in the third in a GEL loss to the Warriors.

Randy Mitchell doubled to account for the line hit for Lindhurst (1-4, 1-4), which travels to Mesa Verde on Monday. River City 3, River Valley 2, 8 inn.

In West Sacramento – The Falcons couldn’t complete the three-game sweep as the Raiders scored a run in run in the bottom of the eighth inning to salvage the final game of the TriCounty Conference series.

Niko Tejada went 2 for 4 with a double, Donovan Saona was 2 for 2 with a run scored and Clayton Chipchase struck out six over six innings on the hill for River Valley (5-3, 2-1), which will take next week off before returning to TCC play against Rio Linda on March 27.

In the junior varsity game, Colby Chipchase went a perfect 3-for-3 with double and two stolen bases to power the Falcons to a 10-7 victory.

Josh Lee was 3 for 5 with a double and two runs scored, and Anthony Carpio was 2 for 3 with two steals and scored twice. Dominic LeBlanc and Elias DeArte both recorded two hits and an RBI, and Jalen Dulai doubled and knocked in two runs.

LeBlanc struck out six over 6 ⁄ innings to earn the win and DeArte recorded the save for River Valley (4-4, 3-0).

East Nicolaus 6, Live Oak 5 In Trowbridge – Austin Dorman hit an RBI double, Nolan Goyet tripled and the Spartans took advantage of eight Live Oak errors to earn a nonleague victory over the Lions.

S.J. Brown and Anthony Adams hit a double each, and Caleb Born added an RBI for East Nicolaus (5-5), which travels to Orland on Tuesday.

No informatio­n was provided by Live Oak (1-4).

Lincoln 10, Sutter 0, 5 inn. In Sutter – The Fighting Zebras scored five runs in the second inning and four more in the third to hand the Huskies a nonleague loss.

Dante Caracciola went 2 for 2 and Kyle Boomgaarde­n smacked a double for Sutter (4-2), which will compete at the three-day Pride Classic in Arizona starting Thursday.

Lincoln also won the junior varsity game, 13-3, in a game in which the Huskies had more runs than hits. Owen Brockman was 1 for 2 with two steals and Chad Hopkins added a single to account for the only hits for Sutter (8-2), which scored on a wild pitch, an error and a sacrifice fly.

SOFTBALL Yuba City 10, Lindhurst 0, 5 inn. In Yuba City – Backed by another strong pitching performanc­e from Blake Craft, the Honkers’ offense showcased five multi-hit performers in a nonleague victory over the Blazers.

Craft picked up the win with a four-inning outing in which she surrendere­d only one hit. She collected 11 strikeouts and walked none.

Michaela Jellsey led Yuba City’s offense with a 3-for-4 performanc­e with three RBIs. Alexis Dorantes, Ashley Jakowski, Maiquel Castro and Corrine Belser each had two hits.

It was the seventh shutout of the young season and second against of the Blazers in two weeks for the Honkers. Yuba City also beat Lindhurst, 6-0, in the Lindhurst Tournament on March 3.

The Honkers (8-2-1) will now gear up for their TCC opener on Tuesday at home against Woodland.

“It was good to get some confidence in our bats before league play,” Yuba City coach Trish Lucich said

Lindhurst (3-6) travels to West Sacramento for a final nonleague tuneup against River City today before opening GEL play on Tuesday at home against Mesa Verde.

Pierce 12, Chester 4 Fall River 10, Pierce 0, 4 inn. Live Oak 12, Pierce 7 In Maxwell – The Bears closed out the Maxwell tournament with a 3-2 record after going 1-2 on Friday.

Grace Alonzo led the way in the victory over Chester by going 2 for 4 with four RBIs, while Soliel Villanueva finished 2 for 3 with a double.

Halle Charter and Sydney Medina both went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Ariana Paiz and Callie Muniz added two hits each.

Muniz also struck out five and allowed four hits to earn the win.

Pierce only mustered three hits in the shutout loss to Fall River, singles by Alonzo, Muniz and Medina.

Against Live Oak, the Bears made a game of it by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth but they couldn’t complete the comeback.

Villanueva finished a perfect 3-for-3, Muniz was 2 for 3 with a double, and Emily Ehrke went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Ehrke took the loss in the circle despite giving up just three earned runs for Pierce (4-9).

SWIMMING Honker boys swim to win In Yuba City – Yuba City’s boys swim team earned its first win of the season with a convincing 130-45 TCC victory over Rio Linda at Gauche Aquatic Park.

The Honkers had a clean sweep of the relays and won all but two individual events.

Leading the way was Trevor Martin, who took first in both of his individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams. Martin won the 200 freestyle (2 minutes, 17.89 seconds) and the 500 freestyle (6:02.83), joined Michael Barnes, Sebastian Respicio and Ari Berlfein on the winning 200 medley relay team (2:06.03), and teamed with Barnes, Ashton Reynolds and Sam Pfeil to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:15.97).

Respicio, Pfeil, Berlfein and Rhys Graham also teamed up to take first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:55.71).

Other individual winners for Yuba City were Respicio in the 200 individual medley (2:43.60), Reynolds in the 50 freestyle (27.03), Berlfein in the 100 freestyle (1:03.54), Barnes in the 100 backstroke (1:17.60) and Kiefer Rex in the 1-meter dive competitio­n (235.20 points).

The Honkers’ girls team fell just short of the Knights, 89-81. Jessica Silveira took first in both of her individual events by winning the 200 freestyle (2:28.27) and the 100 freestyle (1:07.97), Calista Martin finished first in the 50 freestyle (32.48) and Alexandrea Petersen won the 1meter dive competitio­n (155.90) for Yuba City.
