- Appeal-Democrat

A Marysville man died at the Oroville Dam site on Sunday while hauling cement.

At about 7:30 a.m., deputies with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 70 near Power House Hill Road. The vehicle involved in the accident was a cement truck owned by Yuba City-based business Mathew’s Ready Mix.

The sheriff’s office identified Peter Anderson, 51, of Marysville as the driver. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the case and the sheriff’s office is con-

ducting the coroner’s investigation.

Meanwhile, the Department of Water Resources continues to operate the flood control spillway and Hyatt Powerplant to manage outflows from Lake Oroville.

DWR resumed operation of the flood control spillway at 11 a.m. Friday. Outflows from the spillway are about 40,000 cubic feet per second, according to a press release. Flows from Hyatt Powerplant are around 6,750 cfs.

As a result of the current outflows, lake levels at Oroville Lake are dropping about four feet per day.

Inflows to the lake are between 16,000 cfs and 25,000 cfs, according to the release. Lake elevation is 856 feet, 45 feet below the emergency spillway.

Outflows and river levels will remain steady for the next week before being reduced again. The increased flows will continue to leave sufficient storage in Lake Oroville to take on more water from rain or snowmelt. DWR does not expect wet weekend weather to interfere with operations, according to the release.

Boaters, anglers, and others who use the river are advised to be aware of swifter river conditions. The total flow to the Feather River is approximately 48,000 cfs, according to the release. DWR advises the public to avoid the river for the next week.
