Feb. 21, 2016, in Olivehurst: Thomas Cope, 66, was stabbed multiple times with an ice pick, then dismembered post-mortem. Half-brother Timothy Coop is charged with murder. A jury trial is scheduled for April 18.
April 18, 2016, in Yuba City: Joel Ramirez, 20, was found shot dead in an orchard near River Valley High School. Friend Brian Huynh, 20, is charged with murder. Huynh is scheduled for a pre-preliminary hearing May 10.
May 17, 2016, in Yuba City: Ryan Hull, 49, was shot in the head in his apartment in the 1100 block of Kenny Drive. Police believe he was killed while being robbed. Susan Brandt, 58, and her son, Donald Hake, 33, were charged with murder in November. They are scheduled for a pretrial hearing April 5 and a preliminary hear- ing April 27.
June 6, 2016, in Yuba City: Christie Jones, 60. Her son, Patrick Jones, is charged with murder. He is scheduled for further proceedings March 30.
Oct. 22, 2016, in Yuba City: Tyler Pacheco, 18, was beaten down the street from his home on Woodland Drive, before being shot from a vehicle. Walker Clay Jeremiah, 16, is charged with murder. He is scheduled for a continued arraignment April 6.
Nov. 2, 2016, in Marysville: Taj Fields, 43, was shot multiple times in the doorway of Hit Squad Boxing Center, which he owned. Roman Zarate is charged with murder. The case is in limbo, though, as Zarate was declared incompetent to stand trial. He was ordered for treatment at a state hospital. detectives and prosecutors who worked on the case believe we know the circumstances of his killing from those confidential sources, but right now we have no available evidence we can present in court. In that sense, the case has gone ‘cold.’”
If the circumstances change, the investigation will again become active and criminal charges could again be filed, he said.
Dec. 7 in Marysville: Gloria Booth, 92, was found dead in her home in the 400 block of East 25th Street with a gunshot wound. Initially, police thought she died of natural causes in her kitchen. They returned to the scene and began an investigation when the Yuba County coroner discovered a bullet wound.
The department has yet to release where on her body she was shot.
“We’re still actively following up leads and reviewing evidence,” Sachs said Thursday. “There’s a lot of information and a lot of investigation that goes into these cases.”
He said the department, as other local agencies do, rely on crime scene and evidence processing done by the Department of Justice, which can slow the investigation.
Booth’s family last year offered a $50,000 reward for information about her death.
