Yuba baseball swept by Marin

The Yuba College baseball team scored three runs in the third inning but couldn’t muster much more offense after that in a 5-3 Bay Valley Conference loss to the College of Marin on Saturday in Kentfield.

With the win, the Mariners swept the three-game series and sent the 49ers to their sixth straight loss.

Things looked good for Yuba early when Mike Shoenberge­r drove in Carter Cunningham with an RBI single in the top of the third. Darrel Doll and Taylor Doyle followed with RBI doubles later in the inning to give Yuba a 3-0 lead.

Doll struck out five and allowed five hits and one earned run over six innings of work on the mound, leaving the game with a 3-2 lead. However, the Mariners hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh and added in insurance run in the eighth against Yuba’s bullpen to come away with the victory.

Shoenberge­r finished with two hits and Billy Mason doubled for the 49ers (6-17, 1-5 BVC), who will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday when they host Solano. HIGH SCHOOL

BASEBALL Anderson 8, Colusa 7 Colusa 15, Mt. Shasta 4 In Anderson – The RedHawks concluded play at the American Christian Tournament by splitting their final two games.

In the first game of the day, Colusa built a 6-0 lead after two innings but couldn’t hold off Anderson in a tough one-run loss.

Zach Dillard went 2 for 2 and knocked in two runs, Christian Lyss finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Raymond Frias ripped a double to lead the way offensivel­y.

Dillard continued to swing a hot bat in the second game against Mt. Shasta, roping two doubles and knocking in four runs to lead the RedHawks past the Bears.. Lucas Davison, Nan Rodriguez and Alec Bailey each had two hits and smacked RBI doubles.

Frias finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and went the distance on the mound, scattering four hits, striking out seven and giving up just one earned run to pick up the win.

The RedHawks (10-4) travel to Willows on Tuesday for their Sacramento Valley League opener.

Valley Vista 7, Sutter 0 In Phoenix – The Huskies finished their trip to Arizona with a 1-3 record after a shutout loss to Valley Vista High of Surprise, Ariz., in their final game of the 75-team Pride Classic.

Sutter (5-5) amassed only three hits and struck out eight times in the loss, and will begin league play on Tuesday in Oroville with a Butte View League/Westside League crossover against Las Plumas.
