Re: Health care

-

I am continually staggered at the political ignorance of vast segments of the American electorate; and today was the most compelling argument for this notion, when the Republicans withdrew their attempt to revoke the Affordable Care Act and replace it with their version of a health care plan.

So, we have a core of about 35 percent of Americans, who, like the children of Hamelin, blindly followed Trump, their Pied Piper, with his repeated promise to kill the ACA, down the path to his election. Trump gathered the children with two big promises, to build the fence, and to kill Obama Care.

However, a strange thing happened as the children wandered down the path behind their piper, they began to realize that in the seven years that the Republicans voted to kill Obama Care, they never once proposed a substitute. Now, this past two weeks when, with a Republican in the White House, they thought they could get it done, at last. But, the children woke up and took a look at what the Republicans were proposing instead; and it was not good. In fact it was much worse than Obama Care. It would have left millions without health care of any kind, and for those still covered the coverage would be reduce dramatically.

The irony of today’s events, is that those very children began to realize that the Republican plan would harm them more than other any segment of America. I can only hope they realize what a grotesque mistake they made in voting for Trump; and that they will push Trump, and the Republicans, to work across the aisle and come with an improved health care program for all Americans.
