With the game all but settled, Peterson preserved the shutout after inducing a harmless slow roller to first baseman Katie Anderson after the Cardinals put runners on the corners with two outs.

“My curve ball was really working,” Peterson said after the game.

“She does a really good job painting the corners,” said Sutter coach Stefanie Danna. “She will go up if she needs to get someone. Her pitches just broke really well and we are really proud of her coming in and being effective.”

The Huskies’ offense quickly provided Peterson with support in the first inning. With two outs, Akaisha Lewis put the Huskies on top with an RBI single to score Darcy Gillen. After a Sam Anderson single put runners at the corners, Juliana Capaul drove in the second run of the game with a single. Katie Anderson would give the Huskies a 4-0 lead after a two-RBI single scored Julia Tarke and Capaul.

In the second inning, the Huskies managed to load the bases with no outs after a walk and consecutive singles. Cardinals’ pitcher Isabella Blanchard limited the damage, but not before a Gillen RBI single and Sam Anderson RBI walk gave the Huskies a 6-0 lead.

Blanchard seemed to settle down in the third inning, setting the Huskies down in order.

But in the fourth inning, a Maddie Anderson triple to the left field corner set up a five-run frame.

Gillen collected her second RBI of the game with a groundout, which brought Maddie Anderson home. Katie Anderson drove in her team-high fourth RBI with a single, which scored Lewis and Tarke.

After a double by Claire Schwartz, Phoebe Topete drove in the final Huskies’ run with an RBI single.

On the opposing side, the Cardinals got their first runner in scoring position in the final inning. In total, the Cardinal had three base runners.

“We were just not connecting today,” Corning coach Christy Correa said. “If you don’t hit the ball, you can’t get the runners on base, you can’t score. We just got to play our game, play defense and hit the ball. We didn’t do either today.”

With the win, Sutter improved to 10-3-1 overall and 2-0 in Butte View League play. The Huskies have posted shutouts in four of their last five games and will look to stay hot when they host Paradise in another BVL/Westside League crossover game on Tuesday.

Backed by a five-strikeout performance by Reagan Ford, Sut- ter’s junior varsity team cruised to a 20-5 victory over Corning in five innings. After scoring four runs in each of the first two innings, the Huskies all but settled the game with a six-run third.

Ford led the offensive attack with a 2-for-4 performance and two home runs. Cat Jackman also added a home run and Emma McConville and Hailey Schamanski both finished a perfect 4-for-4 for the Huskies (10-2, 1-1).
