Yuba City bounces back with win over Inderkum

Thomas Stevens had four of Yuba City High’s 16 hits, including a homer, and the Honkers rebounded from their loss to Inderkum on Wednesday to beat the same Tigers squad 14-4 on Friday in Sacramento.

The victory improves the Honkers to 4-6 overall and keeps them a game behind Tri-County Conference leader River Valley in the loss column with a 3-2 league record.

Five other Yuba City players – Hayden Reyna, Alex Hernandez, Carter Manning, Brad Madison and Pete Afato – had two hits each. Stevens also scored three times and had two RBI. Madison, Reyna and Afato also knocked in two runs each.

Next week Yuba City is scheduled to play four times. The Honkers have a three-game set with Rio Linda, beginning with a 4:15 p.m. Monday contest on the road. They also play a makeup game against Woodland at home Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Sutter 2, Corning 1 In Sutter – Dante Caracciola struck out nine while firing a complete game three-hitter and went 2 for 3 with an RBI at the plate to power the Huskies past the Cardinals in their league opener.

Jack Enos finished 2 for 3 and hit an RBI double to account for the other run for Sutter (6-5, 1-0), which plays Dixon today at 6:30 p.m. at Raley Field.

In the junior varsity game, Austin Jones went 3 for 3 with three RBIs to power the Huskies to a 18-5 win over Corning in four innings.

Corey McIntyre finished 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs, Chad Hopkins was 3 for 3 and Hunter Hudson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to help the cause for Sutter (9-2, 1-0).

Lindhurst 10, Natomas 4 In Olivehurst – Brian Oliver had a double and three RBI for the Blazers (3-6), who have played all of their games within the Golden Empire League.

Other offensive stars include Cesar Rodriguez with a two-run single and Angelo DeLeon with an RBI double. Gabriel Rojas pitched all seven innings. Lindhurst is home again Wednesday against league-leading Capital Christian.

Dixon 5, Marysville 2 In Dixon – The Indians mustered only three hits in a loss to the Rams in the rubber match of a three-game GEL between second-place teams.

Marysville led 2-0 early before Dixon scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Chase Tarr, Brian Sullivan and Jase Weckman recorded a single each to provide the offense for the Indians (8-3, 6-3), who continue league play on Monday at home against Mesa Verde.

SOFTBALL Marysville 10, West Campus 0, 6 inn.

In Marysville – Josie Rapp fanned seven batters while tossing a four-hit shutout, and the Indians bounced back from Thursday’s one-run loss to rival Lindhurst with an easy GEL victory over the Warriors.

Hannah Clavelle led the way offensivel­y, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and three runs scored.

Madison Powell went 2 for 4 with a double and Raina Hudson finished 2 for 4 and ended the game with an RBI single in the sixth.

Marysville (8-6, 3-1) continues GEL play at Natomas on Monday.

Pierce 11, Live Oak 0, 5 inn. In Arbuckle – Emily Ehrke tossed an abbreviate­d no-hitter with six strikeouts and was also 2 for 3 at the plate to power the Bears to a Sacramento Valley League victory over the Lions.

Laren Ornbaun had a home run, Callie Muniz was 2 for 2 with a double and Sydney Medina was 2 for 2 for Pierce (7-10, 2-0), which hosts Willows on Tuesday.

CO-ED TENNIS Marysville 7, West Campus 2 in Marysville – The Indians lost both boys singles matches but captured everything else in a GEL win over the Warriors.

Anna Rice (6-0, 6-2) and Tang Yang (6-1, 6-0) won in girls singles, the teams of Alex Keth-Soloman Thao (6-3, 6-1) and Lue Thao-Bovic Leutero (6-3, 6-4) won in boys doubles, Letecia Staples-Amanda Yang (6-4, 6-1) and Andrea VangAngeli­e Xiong (6-4, 6-3) earned wins in girls doubles and Josiah Vang-Angelica Yang (6-3, 2-6, 10-7) won in mixed doubles.

Marysville (5-2) travels to play Lincoln on Monday.

TRACK & FIELD Indians take 1st at GEL Meet In Dixon – Marysville’s varsity boys team took first out of seven teams at the first GEL meet of the season on Wednesday.

Mikah Bernal placed first in the 400 (52.48 seconds), second in the triple jump (42 feet, 5 inches) and third in the 200 (23.41), and David Kerstan was first in the 1,600 (4 minutes, 43.51 seconds), second in the 3,200 (10:33.81) and third in the 800 (2:07.35) for the Indians.

Parker Jenks took first in the shot put (50-8) and second in the discus (132-11), Tim Spence finished first in the discus (145-11) and second in the shot put (39-6), and Gavin Battista won the pole vault (11-9).

Ethan Maycroft was second in the pole vault (11-6) and Cornell Greenwood took second in the 110 hurdles (16.73). Placing third for Marysville were Gary Walker in the 100 (11.63), Andrew Hoang in the discus (107-0) and Ivan Gale in the pole vault (8-6).

The 4x400 relay team of Kerstan, Walker, Colton Jaquinot and Pierce Desmond took third (3:52.95), as did the 4x100 relay team of Greenwood, Walker, Devin Edwards and Noah Childers (45.67).

Marysville’s varsity girls team finished second behind Dixon and was led by Katrina Lane’s first-place finish in the pole vault.

Taking second for the Indians were Mariyah Watkins in the 100 (13.34), Baylee Plumb in the long jump (15-2), and Victoria Escheman and Sydney Shrader in the pole vault (7-0).

Star Miller took third in both the 100 hurdles (18.46) and the 300 hurdles (54.67), and Destiny McBride was third in the triple jump (29-6).

Plumb, Watkins, Escheman and Leslie Velazquez also placed third in the 4x100 relay (53.46) to round out the top performers for the Indians.

Marysville’s frosh/soph boys team matched the varsity squad by taking first as well. John Garrison led the way by winning both the 110 hurdles (18.29) and the 300 hurdles (50.30), while taking third in the triple jump (36-0).

The 4x400 relay team of Javier Zuniga, Felix Santiago, James Phillips and Joey Henry took first (4:10.73), and the 4x100 relay team of Zuniga, Chris Moyer, Jacob Harrington and Braedon Bronson was second (49.90).

Taking second individual­ly were Henry in both the 800 (2:19.33) and the 1,600 (5:05.54), Cody Loftis in the long jump (179), Daniel Burdick in the 110 hurdles (18.57) and Cameron Dillon in the 3,200 (11:59.30).

Burdick was third in the 300 hurdles (51.50), Harrington took third in the long jump (17-0) and Anthony Meyer placed third in the 3,200 (11:59.30).
