Clavelle sparks Marysville to victor y

San Jose State commit Hannah Clavelle struck out seven while tossing a two-hitter to lead Marysville High’s softball team to a 7-1 Golden Empire League victory over Mesa Verde on Thursday afternoon at Abby Field in Marysville.

Clavelle also connected for a tworun homer in the bottom of the fifth, her sixth home run of the season, to break open a 2-0 game and the Indians added three insurance runs in the sixth to take control for good.

Annie Christophe­rson went 2 for 3 and Rebekka Montgomery added a double to help the cause for Marysville (11-6, 5-1 GEL), which will be off for spring break before beginning the second cycle of league play on April 18 at home against Dixon.

Sutter 13, Oroville 2, 6 inn. In Sutter – Hailey Peterson struck out nine and allowed three hits for the Huskies in an easy win over the Tigers in a Butte View League/Westside League crossover game at Ruth Lowman Field.

Darcy Gillen was 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBI, Sam Anderson 3 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBI and Katie Anderson was 2 for 4 to lead the way offensivel­y.

Sutter (12-3-1, 4-0 BVL) has won seven straight games and hosts Wheatland on April 18.

In the junior varsity game, Reagan Ford, Emma McConville and Kat Jackman drove in four runs each to lead the Huskies to a five-inning 19-1 win over Oroville.

Ford finished 5 for 5 with a triple and two doubles, McConville went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double,

and Jackman finished 2 for 5. Ford also picked up the win in the circle for Sutter (12-2, 3-1). East Nicolaus 11, Durham 0, 5 inn.

In Trowbridge – Savannah Angland had four strikeouts and faced the minimum 15 batters while throwing a one-hitter as the Spartans cruised past the Trojans to stay perfect in MidValley League play.

Preslie Hewitt had three hits and two RBI, Savanna Price was 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBI and Riley Grigsby had two hits.

East Nicolaus (17-2, 3-0) competes in the Napa Tournament next Friday and Saturday.

Colusa 18, Winters 1, 5 inn. In Winters – The RedHawks continued their dominance this season and remained perfect in Sacramento Valley League play with their second resounding victory over the Warriors this week.

Helena Harris finished 4 for 4 with two doubles to lead the way, but Lexi Ramos and Ashley Huff did some damage as well, with each going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.

Ramos belted her sixth home run of the year, and Abby Huskey and Sidney Lay both collected two hits.

Addie Taylor and Hanna Schneider combined for the win in the circle, limiting Winters to just three hits.

The RedHawks (17-1, 4-0) will take a break from SVL play when they travel to play Lindhurst on Wednesday night.

BASEBALL Sutter 6, Oroville 5 In Oroville – Todd Carr scored the eventual winning run from first base in the top of the seventh on Garrett Sheffield’s double and threw a runner out at the plate from left field in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Huskies past the Tigers in a BVL/WSL crossover game.

Carr was also 3 for 3, Zach Bryan had a two-run double, Michael Boomgaarde­n was 3 for 4 with two doubles and Zach Yacavace had two RBI.

Kyle Boomgaarde­n got the win in relief, working 2 ⁄ innings with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Sutter (8-6, 2-1 BVL) begins its Spring Classic tourney Tuesday against Pierce.

Winters 15, Colusa 5, 5 inn. In Winters – In the rubber match of the regular-season series, the RedHawks suffered their most lopsided loss of the year in an SVL setback to the rival Warriors.

Alec Bailey launched a threerun home run and Christian Lyss went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBI to lead Colusa.

The RedHawks (13-5, 3-1) will look to bounce back when they square off against East Nicolaus at the Sutter Spring Classic on Tuesday.

BOYS GOLF River Valley 205, Pioneer 245 In Woodland – Trey Davis was the low man for the day by shooting an even-par 36, and the Falcons remained perfect against Tri-County Conference competitio­n with a victory over the Patriots at Yolo Fliers Club.

Andrew Davidson fired a 38, Riley Bell shot a 39, and Cole Norton and Ryan Jalavich both carded 46s to round out the scoring five for River Valley

The Falcons improved to 15-1 overall and 13-0 in the TCC with the win and will return to the course on April 18 when they take on Woodland at Plumas Lake.

Marysville 254, Capital Christian 258 In Linda – Chase Call shot a team-low 46 and the Indians hung on for a four-stroke victory over the Cougars in a GEL match at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club.

Luke Mathews finished with a 50, Jonathon Long carded a 51, Taylor Lake recorded a 53 and Rex Rollins notched a 54 to complete the scoring five for Marysville (2-1 GEL)

BOYS TENNIS River Valley 7, Pioneer 2 In Woodland – The Falcons swept all six singles matches to come away with a TCC victory over the Patriots.

Winners for River Valley were Luvdeep Bal, 6-0, 6-0, Jimmy Sallaberry, 6-1, 6-1, Sameer Gupta, 4-6, 6-0, 10-6, Thomas Tonthat, 6-3, 6-2, Christian Ramirez, 6-2, 6-1, and Mustafa Zazai, 6-2, 5-7, 10-5.

Anthony Flores and Noah Towne also teamed up for a 6-0, 6-4 doubles victory for the Falcons (152, 7-2), who will play at Yuba City on April 18.

COLLEGE BASEBALL Los Medanos 11, Yuba 1 In Linda – The 49ers fell into last place in the Bay Valley Conference with a blowout loss to the Mustangs at Engelken Field.

Garrett O’Callaghan started the game for Yuba and surrendere­d only one earned run over five innings. However, his defense made three errors behind him which allowed Los Medanos to open up a 7-0 lead.

Taylor Doyle went 2 for 4 with a double and scored Yuba’s lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly by David Miller in the seventh inning.

The 49ers (7-21, 2-9) will look to salvage the finale of the three-game series on Saturday in Pittsburg.
