PREP ROUNDUP River Valley girls second in TCC track meet

Seven schools and more than 500 track and field athletes converged at River Valley High’s Falcon Stadium on Wednesday for the second Tri-County Conference meet of the season.

Inderkum went on to sweep all four divisions at the meet, with River Valley’s varsity girls squad posting the best finish of the two local programs by taking second as a team. Freshman Sarah Holland took first the 1,600 (5 minutes, 27.6 seconds) and second in the 800 (2:35.50), and Abigail Titus placed first in the discus (90 feet, 6 inches) to lead the way for the Fal- cons.

Cornelia Richardson finished third in both the 100 hurdles (18.01) and the 300 hurdles (52.23), Genevieve Hagen placed third in the 100 (13.97) and Alaira Smith took third in the triple jump (29-10).

Also taking third for River Valley was the 4x100 relay team of Richardson, Grecia Rodriguez, Madeline Morrison and Hagen, which timed in at 53.90 seconds, and the 4x400 relay team of Richardson, Rodriguez, Smith and Holland, which recorded a time of 4:41.84.

Yuba City’s girls team finished fifth and was led by Citllali Fernandez, who took second in both the shot put (29-9) and the discus (83-8). Taking third individual­ly for the Honkers were Emma Nelson in the 200 (27.89) and Alexah Owens in the 400 (65.41).

The Honkers’ 4x400 relay team of Olivia Brown, Alexah Owens, Hannah Owens and Nelson finished second in a time of 4:21.12, and the 4x100 team of Yasmeen Lopez, Alexah Owens, Brown and Nelson took third in 53.81.

In varsity boys competitio­n, Yuba City took third as a team and was led by senior Kaiden Henry’s two victories in the throwing events. Henry won the shot put with a throw of 54-5 and the discus with a heave of 138-0.

LeRon Blackwell won the high jump (61) and the Honkers swept the top three places in the 400 with Keith Halsey taking first (52.08), Erik Palmquist placing (52.69) and Diego Early finishing third (53.27). Halsey also took second in the 200 (23.40).

River Valley’s varsity boys took fourth as a team. Abishek Singh won the long jump (21-4) and was third in the triple

jump (38-1 ⁄ and John Kroeger placed first in the triple jump (399) to lead the Falcons.

Kevonni Gibbs finished second in the 100 (11.73) and third in the 200 (23.56), Emmanuel Castrellon took second in the pole vault (100), Isaac Pendilla placed third in the high jump (5-4) and Gurpreet Deol was third in the 110 hurdles (20.58).

River Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Singh, David Castrejon, Pendilla and Gibbs also took second in a time of 45.18.

The Falcons’ frosh/soph boys squad finished second as a team and was led by Jakob Bybee, who took first in the 1,600 (5:09.03), and second in both the 800 (2:20.57) and the 3,200 (11:41.31).

Other first-place finishers for River Valley were Matt Rockenstei­n in the discus (102-10), Bryce Dahlen in the high jump (5-0) and Josiah McMenamy in the pole vault (9-0). McMenamy also took second in triple jump (34-6), Edson Leon finished second in both the 110 hurdles (19.48) and the 300 hurdles (46.86), and Fernando Felix was third in the 110 hurdles (20.34).

McMenamy, Leon, Taveon Shepherd and DJ Whitely teamed up to take third in the 4x100 relay (49.83), and Abhayjot Singh, Bybee, Shepherd and Austin Costa-Phillips joined forces to take third in the 4x400 relay (4:06.10) for RV.

Yuba City’s frosh/soph boys squad had five discus throwers place in the top ten, but finished seventh as a team overall. Chris Divas led the way by taking second in the discus (102-9).

In frosh/soph girls action, River Valley finished second as a team and was led by Evelyn Ramirez Villa, who won both the 1,600 (6:21.76) and the 3,200 (13:39.24) while taking third in the long jump (13-6 ⁄ Also winning events for the Falcons were Thya Sengwong in the triple jump (28-11) and Angelica Hyde in the discus (65-9).

Aaliyah Caramanica finished second in the 100 (14.53) and third in the 200 (29.76), Gabriela Chavez placed second in the 200 (29.74), Faith Craig took second in the 800 (2:53.24), Jaycie Stevenson was second in the pole vault (6-0) and Faith George posted a third-place finish in the 1,600 (6:26.60).

The Falcons 4x100 relay team of Kiana Chatfield, Savannah Johnson, Chavez and Caramanica also finished second (54.88), as did the 4x400 relay team of Ramirez Villa, Samantha Taylor, Craig and Lindsey Bartlett (4:46.46).

Yuba City’s frosh/soph girls team took sixth and didn’t have an athlete finish in the top three in any event.

SWIMMING Honkers, Falcons split In Yuba City – Yuba City won the boys competitio­n and River Valley won the girls side of things during Thursday’s TCC dual meet at Gauche Aquatic Park.

The Honkers’ boys team swam to a 111-47 victory over the Fal- cons thanks to a strong performanc­e by Trevor Martin, who had two individual wins by placing first in the 100-yard freestyle (57.48) and the 500 freestyle (6:06.04).

Harrison Cheim took first the 100 butterfly (1:05.36) and was second in the 100 backstroke (1:09.96), Sam Pfeil placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:21.84) and second in the 500 freestyle (6:30.82), Mark Salis finished first in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:18.66) and Sebastian Respicio was first in the 200 individual medley (2:36.70).

Recording second-place finishes for Yuba City were Michael Barnes in the 100 freestyle (58.96) Ashton Reynolds in the 200 individual medley (2:44.30) and John Rogers in the 1-meter diving competitio­n (123.50 points).

The team of Martin, Rhys Graham, Reynolds and Barnes won the 400 freestyle relay (4:31.27), and Martin, Respicio, Cheim and Ari Berlfein placed first in the 200 medley relay (2:02.61) for the Honkers.

For the Falcons, Rylan Little won both the 1-meter diving competitio­n (362.10) and the 50 freestyle (25.15), Avery Anderson won the 100 backstroke (1:08.53) and placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.85), and John Dewey finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:43.50).

The team of Little, Christian Ortega, Dewey and Anderson also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.50) for RV.

River Valley’s girls team earned a 95-78 victory over Yuba City and was led by Ruby Bailey, who had two individual firstplace finishes by winning the 200 freestyle (2:46.50) and the 500 freestyle (7:38.35).

Carissa Noall raced to first in the 50 freestyle (29.84), Jasmine Valdes-Young touched first in the 100 freestyle (1:09.41) and was second in the 100 breaststro­ke, and Michelle Hsu finished first in the 200 individual medley (3:05.37).

Taking second for the Falcons were Ashley Fung in the 500 freestyle (7:42.07) and Jaclyn Ruiz in the 200 individual medley (3:11.98).

River Valley pulled away by winning all three relay events. The team of Noall, Ruiz, Hsu and Valdes-Young won the 200 freestyle relay (2:03.75), Mackenzie Van Valkenburg­h, Aryssa Montoya, Samantha Coomes and Fung raced to first in the 400 freestyle relay (5:25.32) and Ruiz, Valdes-Young, Noall and Hsu joined forces to win the 200 medley relay (2:25.50).

Jessica Silveira led the way for Yuba City by taking first in both the 100 butterfly (1:21.12) and the 100 breaststro­ke (1:27.26), Maren Hammarstro­m won the 100 backstroke (1:28.78) and Alexandrea Petersen placed first in the 1meter diving competitio­n (132.65).

Dannika Day posted secondplac­e finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:48.64) and the 50 freestyle (30.46), and Claire Oakes finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:30.00) to round out the leaders for the Honkers.
