East Nicolaus baseball nips Durham in 11

Nolan Goyet’s two-out, RBI double scored Adin Starr from first base in the bottom of the 11th inning and lifted East Nicolaus High’s baseball team to 2-1 MidValley League victory over Durham on Tuesday in Trowbridge.

Goyet knocked in both runs for the Spartans and also pitched the first eight innings without allowing an earned run. He had nine strikeouts before S.J. Brown relieved him to work the last three innings.

Anthony Adams was 3 for 5 for East Nicolaus, which totaled nine hits.

The Spartans scored first in the bottom of the third. The Trojans tied the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth.

East Nicolaus (7-8, 2-2 MVL) travels to Durham on Thursday for a rematch.

SOFTBALL East Nicolaus 14, Durham 0, 5 inn. In East Nicolaus – Preslie Hewitt was 4 for 4 with a double and four runs scored to power the Spartans (20-5, 4-0 MVL) to a win over the Trojans.

Savannah Price was 3 for 4 with a triple, Makenzee Goyet went 2 for 2 with a double and Riley Grigsby finished 2 for 3. In the circle, Savhanna Angland allowed one hit over the first three innings and Avery Croxall struck out four in the last two innings.

The teams meet again at Durham on Thursday.

Rio Linda 3, River Valley 2 In Rio Linda – The Falcons tied the game in the top of the seventh, but the Knights rallied back to score the gamewinnin­g run in the bottom half of the inning to escape with the Tri-County Conference victory.

No stats were provided by River Valley (3-10-1, 2-5), which will look to bounce back today against crosstown rival Yuba City.

Rio Linda also picked up a 17-9 win in the junior varsity game. Mikayla Aparicio went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI, Katelynn Rubio finished 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, and Zoey Bear was 2 for 4 with two RBI to lead the Falcons (0-10, 0-7).

“The last time I spoke to him was Sunday,” Wotus said. “I knew he was going in to get checked out, and we knew this was a possibilit­y. He’s had the (atrial fibrillati­on) and he’s dealt with that before.”

Bochy underwent a heart procedure in February 2015, just a few months after beat- ing the Royals in a dramatic seven-game World Series, to insert two stents. Bochy also was hospitaliz­ed last summer with an undisclose­d illness that forced him to miss a game in Miami. POSEY ACTIVATED FROM

CONCUSSION LIST KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Giants activated catcher Buster Posey from the seven- day concussion list and designated backup catcher Tim Federowicz for assignment before Tuesday night’s game against the Royals.

Posey was put on the list last week after he was struck in the helmet by a 94 mph fastball from Arizona’s Taijuan Walker. Posey got up on his own but exited the game, and the Giants decided not to take any chances him.
