FIRST TEAM: Smith was All-TCC; Velazquez voted All-Northern Section

Another All-TCC selection, Smith did a little bit of everything while leading the Honkers to an 18-11 overall record and an upset victory over Roseville in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs.

Smith shot 49.3 percent from the field while averaging 12.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Voted Yuba City’s offensive MVP, he was also named to the all-tournament team at the Rob Varies Tournament, Fairfield Invitation­al and Mel Good Holiday Classic during the course of the season. Williams One of the area’s top players for the past three years, Velazquez earned his first first-team All-Area selection after turning in another stellar season for the Yellowjack­ets.

A factor on both ends of the court, Velazquez averaged a team-high 19 points to go with 8.2 rebounds and 4.8 steals per game. He took home Mid-Valley League MVP honors as Willliams ended the year 23-7 overall and came up just short of winning its second straight Northern Section Division V title.

His best game came against East Nicolaus on Feb. 2, when he scored 22 of his game-high 43 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Yellowjack­ets to a win after trailing by 29 points at halftime.

Velazquez was voted third team All-Northern Section and played in last month’s Phil Bryant Northern Section All-Star Game, where he finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
