Kennel Club dog show this weekend
Dogs of all sizes and types, purebreds and some not recognized by the American Kennel Club, are filling the YubaSutter Fairgrounds today and Sunday for the Two Cities Kennel Club annual dog show.
The show starts at 8 a.m. today and Sunday at 442 Franklin Ave. in Yuba City, with nearly 600 dogs expected.
Admission and park- ing are free. Dogs are competing in obedience and rally trials both days.
Obedience, open to all dogs, showcases what dogs and handlers can do together with regards to training. Rally includes an obstacle course instructing the owner what commands to give.
The show also includes four “open shows” for non-AKC breeds; and “barn hunt” practice runs, for any dog, that test a dog’s ability and desire to follow its nose and find a hidden rat.
Activities also feature veterinary eye and cardiac exams today; vendors with food and dog products; a microchip and tattoo clinic for dogs; information on care and training of your dog; and brochures on several subjects including competition, breeding and registration.
The AKC currently registers 189 dog breeds, according to its website.
