Consultants focus on erosion zones at Oroville

- By Patrick Groves

The independent board of consultants recommended the Department of Water Resources design team address erosion zones around the emergency spillway of the Oroville Dam.

The latest memo made public by DWR on Friday highlighted construction efforts and design features of the main and emergency spillway.

Construction is expected to ramp up after DWR closed the flood gates Friday for the dry season.

“We wanted to honor our police officers and at the same time remember those lost before us,” Easton said. “We’ve seen nothing but growing support from the community.”

Officer Josh Paul, MPD’s Officer of the Year in 2016, was showing Skupnick’s kids how to turn on the lights and let them take a seat at the wheel. Aside from enforcing the law, Paul is also a school resource officer.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to interact with people,” Paul said. “It’s great because people have the opportunity to ask you questions.”

When asked what kind of questions he is asked from the community, he recalled one elementary school student asking, “Does the Marysville Police Department have a submarine?”

Marysville Councilman Bill Simmons was also present at the lunch to show support for the city’s law enforcement.

“It’s a historic moment for this, it needed to be done,” Simmons said. “They do so much for the community.”

According to the National Police Week website, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, D.C., to participate in a number of planned events, which honor those “that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
