Chase ends in 3-vehicle accident
An attempted traffic stop sparked a vehicle chase Saturday that ended in a three-car accident in Yuba County.
Raymond Hernandez, 29, of Olivehurst, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, felony evading, felony vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance, and driving on a suspended license, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At 9:48 a.m., a CHP unit attempted a traffic stop on a 1973 Chevy truck for speeding near Griffith Avenue and Hammonton- Smartsville Road, when Hernandez failed to yield and led officers on a pursuit, according to the CHP.
Officers pursued Hernandez through neighborhoods in the Edgewater and Linda areas until he crashed southbound on Lindhurst Avenue and Erle Road.
Hernandez struck the rear of a Chevy Blazer SUV – driven by William Sweet, 68, of Olivehurst – that was stopped at a red light.
The impact pushed Sweet’s Blazer into the rear of a 2003 Chevy pickup driven by Albert McNellis, 73, also of Olivehurst.
The passenger in Hernandez’s vehicle, Earnest Norman, 26, of Olivehurst, was transported to Rideout Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, according to the CHP.
Hernandez was also taken to Rideout for minor injuries and was booked into Yuba County Jail after being released.
