Sutter High sophomore wins art competition
Dawn Marie McIlwain, a sophomore at Sutter Union High School, was named as the Sutter County winner in the annual Congressional High School Art Competition hosted by Congressman John Garamendi, 3rd District.
Her work, “Butterfly Kisses,” will be featured in the Congressman’s office in Davis for a year.
Most of the works submitted by the 108 students, who included 17 from Sutter High, from throughout the Congressional District were on display in early May at the Pence Gallery in Davis.
“Innocence,” by district winner Alison Rubin, a junior at Davis Senior High School, will be featured at an exhibit at the U.S. Capitol for a year.
Participating Sutter Union High School students included: Hannah Bufford, sophomore, “Sick of Flowers.” Bethany Clinkenbeard, senior, “Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.” Mia Darwazeh, junior, “All the Things.” Russell Graf, junior, “Hollow Liberty.” Haley Holland, freshman, “Fishin’ Dock.” Emily Hughes, junior, “Christmas Day.” Brooke Matthews, junior, “Essence of Soul.” Alexis O’Halloran, junior, “Wounds.” Kendall Pearson, sophomore, “A Glimpse of Serenity.” Guadalupe Perez, junior, “Claudio.” Natalie Prather, junior, “Child’s Play.” Fatima Preciado, sophomore, “Dreamy Eyes.” Ezekiel Smith, sophomore, “Nadeshot.” Brianna Thompson, sophomore, “Look What You Are Doing to Her.” Alexandra Valencia, senior, “This is Me.” Brianna Yetter, junior, “Wanderlust.” The 3rd District includes the counties of Sutter, Yuba, Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo.
