Smith said Sutter County’s map augments Yuba City’s evacuation map and incorporates the established zones the city developed.

Darin Gale, public information officer with Yuba City, said residents of Yuba City and Sutter County wanted a more united voice in the wake of the evacuations. Gale said the communities worked very close together on the map.

The six most concentrated zones are established in and around Yuba City. The zones widen once outside urban areas.

The Sutter and East Canal Bypass’ separate the western most zones of 9 and 11. The town of Sutter and the Sutter Buttes are located in zone 8.

The Feather River runs along the eastern edge of zones 7 and 10, which are north and south, respectively, of Yuba City. The Feather River also divides zone 12 into the southern most portion of the county.

Smith said the county emphasizes that the evacuation routes pertain to an emergency at Oroville Dam and may not be the same routes used in other situations, such as slow-rise flooding. In addition, the routes are subject to change at any time and are dependent on real-time information.

In a Sutter County press release, these footnotes were included:

If there is an evacuation from an Oroville Dam emergency, no highway traffic will be allowed to travel north toward the dam.

In addition, it is assumed the bridges between Yuba City and Marysville will be closed to allow the residents of Marysville to evacuate, as was the case during the February 12 evacuation. All highway traffic instead will be routed on highways west via Highway 20 through the Meridian Basin toward Colusa County and Interstate 5; southwest via Highway 113 through the Robbins basin with access to Woodland, Davis, and Interstate 505; and south via Highway 99 with access to the greater Sacramento Region and Interstate 80.

Smith said no public meeting is scheduled to discuss the evacuation map.
