SPRAY: ‘City is excited’

-

touch of a button from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. daily through August.

“With the weather heating up, the city is excited to offer playful cooling stations and places that are safe for children,” McIntire said. “We picked those times because they’re the hottest times of the day, and at the same time we’re still adhering to being water-wise.”

Bruceann Harold runs the day care service Enchanted Learning, and she had more than a dozen children at Shanghai Garden Park – some getting soaked at the spray grounds.

“We came out here last Tuesday, and the water wasn’t supposed to be on till Saturday, but as we walked out here, one of the buckets dropped and all the water came out,” Harold said. “The kids all looked at me and I said, ‘OK, go for it,’ and they all ran to the water.”

Meanwhile, Maricela Damian of Yuba City was at Regency Park with her daughter, Syndreah Villarreal, 18 months.

“It’s another fun area for the kids to cool off on hot, summer days, and it’s so close to all the other park features, so if they get tired of the water, they can play in the park,” Damian said.

McIntire said another safe alternative for relief from the hot weather is the city’s Gauche Aquatic Park, which will soon be opening up seven days a week for the summer.

“We want the public to be aware that even though it’s hot out, the water in the Feather River is cold and moving swiftly,” McIntire said. “We encourage families to be aware and wear life vests.”
