A pit bull was shot by officers last weekend after it bit a passer-by and charged officers.

Marysville police Lt. Chris Sachs said at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, a man called police reporting he and his dog were attacked by two dogs in the 2300 block of Del Pero Street. Sachs said officers confirmed the man was bitten and found an aggressive black-and-white pit bull and a brown Chihuahua.

After officers tried coaxing the dogs into their patrol car, both dogs started barking at officers. After trying to get the dogs to stop barking, Sachs said the pit bull charged at an officer, who fired his handgun and hit the dog in the upper body/head area.

Sachs said the shot was fired at a downward angle and there were no bystanders in the area.

The pit bull ran off toward a nearby residence, the owners were contacted, and the dog was taken to the veterinarian. Sachs said he does not know the condition of the dog.

Just two days earlier, another person was bitten by a black-and-white pit bull a few blocks away in the 2400 block of Rebecca Way. That victim said the pit bull, accompanied by a small brown dog, bit them on the right calf, then charged and bit them again on the left arm. Both dogs ran away, and police were unable to locate them.

Sachs said officers believe the dogs were the same.
