A year after daughter’s murder, mother is still seeking answers
22-year-old’s body was found in a burning car in Georgia in May ’16
The walls of Ann Morrison’s Yuba City home are adorned with family photos, trinkets and other reminders of her daughter.
Eva Marie Fullmer was found murdered in Savannah, Ga., just more than a year ago. Just weeks before her death, she had turned 22. She had grown up in Yuba City, but traveled across the country to visit family and friends.
According to Georgia news outlets, Fullmer was reported missing May 10, 2016, and her body was found in a burning car in Savannah two days later.
Morrison said she wasn’t notified the body was that of her daughter until August, and Fullmer’s identity wasn’t released publicly until November.
It was then that Fullmer’s death was ruled a homicide by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Savannah police. A spokesperson for the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department said there have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
“The case is not considered ‘cold’ and is still being worked by a homicide detective,” said Cpl. Hillary Nielsen in an email Friday.
The last time Morrison spoke with her daughter before she was reported missing was Mother’s Day last year. And she recalled Fullmer requesting fried cabbage – a Cajun dish – for her birthday meal at home.
“She was a great person, very funny, intelligent,” Morrison said Friday. “I miss her so, so much.”
Fullmer’s urn sits on top of Morrison’s coffee table, accompanied by her smiling photo. A blue and white dresser sits in the corner of the living room with a larger canvas photo of Fullmer, and owl figurines are placed throughout the home – Fullmer’s favorite colors and favorite animal.
Though every day without her daughter is a challenge in itself, Morrison said not having answers is just as heartbreaking. Fullmer’s death certificate is mostly filled with “unknowns” like time, date and cause of death, she said.
“I need justice, I cannot rest,” Morrison said. “I want the people responsible for killing her to pay for what they did.”
Anyone who may have information of Fullmer’s disappearance or death is asked to call the SavannahChatham Metropolitan Police Department’s confidential tip line: 912-525-3124, or Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020. There may be a reward for information on Fullmer’s death.
