For a few minutes, downtown Marysville came to a standstill as the Marysville Gold Sox and Yuba City Bears kicked off their Twin Cities rivalry with a parade toward Colusa Casino Stadium.

The event, which began in the Habitat For Humanity parking lot, moved forward with an escort from the Marysville Police Department and a Coca-Cola big rig. Linda Lions Club, Habitat For Humanity, California Highway Patrol, Ampla Health, Recology and KETQ-LP 93.3 FM participated in the parade.

“It’s a great event for the community because it shows that we are putting our players out there for them,” said Michael Mink, general manager for both teams. “We are doing are part in saying we care about this community, and we want the community to be a big part of us. It’s a community team bottom line. That is how we operate ourselves on a daily basis.”

Prior to the parade, Mink gathered both teams and gave a speech as if both teams were about to hit the field. He spoke of treating one another like brothers and showing respect for the community in which they play baseball.

letti said he is excited for the Bears and Gold Sox to “rehydrate” a rivalry between the two cities that dates back decades.

“We have a deep root stock with baseball in the Yuba-Sutter area,” Nicoletti said. “It’s just a great time to get this up and rolling and to build this culture of wholesome, fun athletics. It just makes our community so much more.”

One of those who watched the parade was Sara Cortes, who watched the event with several members of her family. Although she said she wished downtown businesses had known more about the event beforehand, she was pleased with the parade.

“It was exciting,” said Cortes. “It’s great for the kids and lets everyone know the Yuba City Bears are coming out. Hopefully more fans will know more about the teams and participate because of this event.”
