$20,000.

The new hire will work as the city’s chief financial officer.

The council will revisit the issue about the cost difference between contracting with the county or with a Roseville recruiting agency – Bob Murray & Associates.

Samayoa said the council should not interfere with day-to-day operations overseen by city staff.

“It’s important that the council stays in its lane and the city manager stays in his,” he said. “I think that vote itself crossed the line, and I’m apprehensive to say what happens next.”

He said he passionately defended the city staff recommendation to go with the Roseville agency because he trusts its expertise, experience and skills to recommend what the city needs.

Council member Dale Whitmore said the council should direct City Manager Walter Munchheimer to work with Yuba County Adminis- trator Robert Bendorf.

“I’m a little disappointed that the city manager didn’t ask the county what they had to offer,” Whitmore said.

Councilman Bill Simmons said a decision with a potential price difference of $20,000 needs to be thoroughly vetted before receiving council approval.

“It’s like shooting targets, except it’s shooting targets we can’t see,” he said.

Samayoa said the hiring is timesensitive and the city staff proposal should be approved.

“I don’t have time to go out to do the homework, so I trust our city staff,” he said. “That’s the unfortunate part is we need to do this now. If we have to make a tough decision, then we have to make this decision now."

The council members disagreed, with Whitmore making a motion for the Munchheimer to work with Bendorf. Accounts Receivable......... Classified Fax.................... Accounts Receivable......... Display Fax....................... Toll Free.................
