O-L victor y sets up winner-take-all final

The Olivehurst-Linda Legends won their sixth consecutiv­e eliminatio­n game on Tuesday night, and as a result, will find themselves playing for District 2 Little League’s major softball Tournament of Champions title.

Danni Farris continued her solid play by striking out nine over six innings of work in the circle and went 2 for 3 with two runs scored at the plate to power Olivehurst-Linda to a 9-4 victory over the previously unbeaten Sutter Buttes Thunder and set up a winner-take-all championsh­ip game on Saturday.

Bianca Yanez finished 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored to help the cause for O-L, which avenged a 4-3 loss to Sutter Buttes in its tournament opener on May 25.

Payton McGinnis went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Natalee Gardner singled and scored a run for Sutter Buttes, which was 4-0 entering Tuesday’s game.

Gardner also allowed one hit over four innings in the circle in a losing effort.

The championsh­ip game will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. back at Sutter Buttes Little League Park in Yuba City.

The loss offset a strong pitching performanc­e from Gold Sox starter Doug Nimura, who struck out nine and allowed three hits over five shutout innings.

Marysville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a basesloade­d walk by Nick Bero and an RBI single by Tyler Yamaguchi. Both runs that inning were unearned.

Cruz Diddario came on in relief and struck out seven over 2 ⁄ innings before allowing two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Sam Leach got the final out of the eighth and came back out to try to earn the save in the ninth before Portland staged its twoout rally to pull out the win.

Yamaguchi doubled while accounting for three of Marysville’s four hits. Bero singled for the other.

The last-place Gold Sox (1-6) will look to avoid the three-game sweep when they take on the Pickles (4-4) in the series finale today in Portland.

Rogues 11, Bears 5 In Marysville – The Bears fell behind at the start and couldn’t recover in a blowout loss to visiting Medford at Colusa Casino Stadium.

The Rogues took a 4-0 in the top of the first inning after two hits, four walks and a wild pitch from starting pitcher Hayden Horan, who lasted only ⁄ of an inning to take the loss. Medford then tacked on two more runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to up the lead to 9-0.

The Bears finally got on the board by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh. Blake Rose reached on an error and came in to score on another error for the first run of the inning before Dominic Diana delivered a two-run single to cut the lead to 9-3.

The score didn’t stay there long, however, as the Rogues plated two more runs in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach and come away with their second victory over the Bears in as many days.

Trey Yukumoto and Diana hit RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth to complete the scoring for Yuba City.

Diana finished 3 for 5 with three RBI, Aric Cortes recorded two hits, and Yukumoto and Jorrell Quinones scored two runs each for the Bears (2-6), who finished the game with nine hits.

The Rogues (5-4) also recorded nine hits, but took advantage of 12 walks issued by four Yuba City pitchers.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series today back in Marysville.
