Yuba County weighing renewal of partnership with economic council
SACOG deal would cost $23,168
Yuba County partnered with the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council last year in an attempt to boost economic development in the area. County supervisors will decide if that partnership is worth renewing another year at their meeting today.
“The partnership – which serves six counties and the region, with regard to economic development – allows the county access to business leads, meaning we get requests for proposals from various, additional sources,” said Brynda Stranix, president and COO of Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corp.
Stranix, who would be Yuba County’s representative on the Economic Development Director’s Taskforce if approved by supervisors, said the part- nership also provides recruitment benefits.
“In the recent past, we had a business looking to locate in Yuba County, so they (the economic council) came to the table as part of our recruitment team,” Stranix said. “It benefits the county because it shows that our workforce is more like 2 million strong and not just a couple hundred thousand for the county. It just makes the region a little more attractive.”
The cost for Yuba County to renew its part- nership would be $23,168 in the upcoming fiscal year. Supervisors will discuss the renewal at 9 a.m. today at the Government Center in Marysville.
Sutter County also has a partnership with the council, Stranix said. Other jurisdictions include El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties.
“It’s just another tool for us, and at a relatively low additional cost to the county, we get a lot of bang for the buck,” Stranix said.
