Yuba Sutter Arts has received two grants totaling $28,000.

The California Arts Council selected Yuba Sutter Arts to receive $18,000 as part of the Arts Council’s Local Impact program. The Local Impact program seeks to foster equity, access and opportunity by providing project and partnership support for small arts organizations with budgets less than $1 million.

Yuba Sutter Arts plans to continue its citywide, three-year exterior mural project in Live Oak called Murals of Live Oak. The group is also seeking to engage residents and encouraging participation, especially among the young. The murals showcase the history of the city with its rural backdrop and its cultural heritage.

“The Local Impact program eliminates barriers keeping low-income, rural, and historically underserved communities from equal access to arts programs,” said Donn K. Harris, chair of the California Arts Council in a press release. “Yuba Sutter Arts’ project helps to further the Arts Council’s vision of enriching the lives of all Californians through arts participation, while allowing the local community to access their own creativity.”

Yuba Sutter Arts is one of 130 grantees chosen for this competitive program, which received applications from 203 organizations statewide. Yuba Sutter Arts has also been awarded a $10,000 grant for the expansion of its Veterans Portrait Project. The Veterans in the Arts program of the California Arts Council supports nonprofit arts organizations, local arts agencies and veterans’ assistance agencies to reach veterans, active duty military and their families.

“These two generous grants will greatly enhance our ability to move forward with two of our anchor projects,” David Read, Yuba Sutter Arts Executive Director, said in a press release. “We are proud to have our vision and our work recognized by members of the state arts leadership team.”
