People braved the 100-degree heat – snow cones and beer in hand – to enjoy the annual Summer Stroll in downtown Yuba City on Saturday.

Gaiser Pets’ iguana took to the sidewalk at the beginning of the stroll to eat bits of apple and hang out in the sun, as passers-by ogled. Though the streets weren’t packed at first, there were plenty of strollers out

Genny Vasquez and Gloria Seblian sat in the shade near The Happy Viking, talking, laughing and planning their next move.

“We may go get some of that freshsqueezed lemonade,” Vasquez said.

She lives near downtown and enjoys coming to the strolls every year to check out the vendors.

“This is my first round of the day,” she said. “I’ll go home and lay down … then have dinner at Linda’s.”

Seblian said she enjoys taking in the sights of the stroll.

“I like the music and people watching,” Seblian said.

The pair went to breakfast at Linda’s, strolled, planned to go home and return for dinner again at Linda’s and cooler temperatures.

“We’re making it a whole day,” Vasquez said.

Spider-Man walked around giving high-fives, and the Yuba City Bears and Marysville Gold Sox mascots took time to hug their little fans.

Melissa Hensgen’s children, Kaylee, Alexa and Ryan, were enjoying snow cones in the shade at the start of the stroll.

“It’s something to do,” Hensgen said.

She and her family were hoping to finish snow cones and strolling the street before the heat of the day set in and more people crowded the area.

Ralph Stevenson and Rodney Averett sat on Sopa Thai’s patio in the shade and enjoyed a couple of cold beers while the street around them was bustling. Stevenson comes nearly every year and likes to hit the brick-and-mortar restaurants and shops during the stroll as opposed to the booths.

“It’s nice to get outside and have a beer,” Stevenson said. “The breeze makes it nice.”

Lydia Sunitsch came to the Summer Stroll with her four children in tow, camped outside of Sawyer’s Sweet Spot enjoying some snow cones.

“We came to find a unique gift for Father’s Day,” Sunitsch said.

Her husband was out of town for the day, so she and the kids headed to Plumas Street to find a gift: a 49ers metal memorabilia piece.

“It’s the perfect time to try and sneak a surprise,” Sunitsch said.
