- Appeal-Democrat

Bert Manuel, a third-generation farmer and lifelong Sutter County resident, will run for the county’s District 3 Board of Supervisors seat, according to a news release.

Incumbent Larry Munger will not seek re-election.

Manuel said he wants to bring a positive attitude to government. The rice and walnut farmer cites his experience in creating jobs in the industry and years of sitting on multiple agricultural commissions.

He is currently chairman of the California Cooperative Rice Research Foundation and serves on the board for the California Rice Commission. Manuel is also a committee member of the USA Rice Federation, and a past director of the US Rice Council, according to a press release by Crystal Martin of Smart Marketing and Printing.

Munger has served 24 years on the board.

“I felt it was time to do more traveling,” said Munger.

Manuel said he would not have run if Munger had decided to seek re-election.

Primary elections for the Sutter County Board of Supervisors District 2 and 3 seats will be in June 2018.
