FIREWORKS:

-

The person(s) who owns, rents, leases, or otherwise has possession of the residence or other private property.

The person(s) in immediate control of the residence or other private property.

The person(s) who organizes, supervises, sponsors, conducts, allows, controls, or controls access to the illegal discharge or illegal storage of fireworks."

The person or responsible party who violates any provisions may be charged with a misdemeanor and is subject to an administrative fine of up to $1,000 for the first and any subsequent violation. Though an officer no longer has to physically watch the illegal firework being lit, there does need to be some sort of evidence of said illegal activity.

If the residence or other private prop-

erty is rented or leased, the landlord or lessor is not covered by this section unless they fall within the category of persons described under paragraph 2 or 3 of this definition. A landlord or lessor can only be held responsible under paragraph 3 of this definition if he or she has knowledge that fireworks are being discharged or illegally stored on the property without obtaining a permit therefore from the Fire Chief.

Across the river, the Marysville Fire Department will be stepping up its patrol.

“We will be a little more proactive this year, have a more visible presence,” said Fire Chief Dale Vogelsang.

Vogelsang said though the area has seen some light rain the past week, all it takes is low humidity and winds to make conditions especially prone to fires, which could be started by fireworks.

“Make sure you’re using safe and sane fireworks,” Vogelsang said, “and if you live in unincorporated areas make sure they are allowed where you live.”
