Missing teen returns to parents
A 17-year-old girl reported missing this week in the company of a Yuba County parolee returned safely to her parents, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Sheriff’s Office received a missing person’s report Monday on the Railroad Flat girl and that she was with 37-year-old Michael Allen Stewart out of Yuba County.
They were last seen together in the Railroad Flat area on June 14.
The girl was in contact with family and friends but did not disclose her whereabouts, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Stewart was wanted by California Department of Corrections for a parole violation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office announced the girl “has returned and is safe with her parent.”
There was no mention of Stewart.
That same day, according to court records, an arrest warrant was issued out of Yuba County Superior Court charging Stewart with felony counts of kidnapping, criminal threats, corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant and assault with a deadly weapon.
The charges stemmed from a May 26 incident. Details were not available.
In August 2011, Stewart was sentenced to six years in state prison in Yuba County Superior Court after pleading no contest to kidnap- ping.
He had been accused of holding two women captive all night and beating them in Loma Rica.
A plea agreement that included dismissal of other charges, including torture and sexual battery, left one of the women angry. The other woman did not want to be interviewed, according to a Yuba County Probation Department report.
According to accounts at the time, Stewart dragged one woman out of bed by her hair, tied a horse rein around her neck and her hands behind her back.
He stripped and cut her clothes off and had both women lean over a freezer while he whipped them with reins.
Stewart was on parole at the time of that incident after a 2008 conviction for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.
