Gold Sox get past Chico
Marysville – The Marysville Gold Sox used a five-run fifth inning to overcome the Chico Heat in a 8-3 win Sunday night at Colusa Casino Stadium.
Justin Cooney-Sylk started off the fifth inning with a single on a 3-1 count off Heat starter Mikey Wright. After advancing along with Beau McClintock into scoring position, the pair scored after the Heat’s shortstop made a costly error.
Caden Goldby and Tom Fuller would drive in three more runs off a double and single respectively.
Goldby would later pad the Gold Sox’s lead with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Devin Pettengill scored the first run of the night for the Gold Sox in the first inning. In the third inning, the Gold Sox took a 2-0 lead on a McClintock solohome run.
The Heat would tie the game an inning later with a pair of runs.
McClintock, Goldby and Tom Fuller each led the Gold Sox with two RBI apiece.
Cooney-Sylk was 3 for 5 at the plate Sunday to lead the team in hits.
As the Gold Sox offense continued to pile on the runs, pitching was solid.
Sam Leach picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk. In six innings of work, Leach picked up eigth strikeouts.
Leach has a 4.50 ERA after tonight’s game and a 1-3 record.
Travis Weston finished the final three innings for the Gold Sox. Weston gave up one hit and struckout three.
Yuba City Bears The last-place Bears were off Sunday night.
The Bears will not play tonight either, as they look forward to hosting a three-game series against the Portland Pickles starting on Tuesday.
