Car-to-car shooting appears random
The incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. near Pleasant Valley Road and Highway 49. The woman, 27, and man, 30 – both of Petaluma – were traveling to the Downieville area to camp when the car-to-car shoot- ing occurred.
The victims were traveling north, when the shooter, traveling south, fired a single bullet that struck the female driver in the face before exiting and striking the male passenger in the mouth.
Both victims were transported by air and ground ambulances to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
“The woman suffered a non-life threatening wound to the jaw and is scheduled to undergo surgery, and the male sustained a minor injury that he was treated and released for at a Sacramento area hospital,” Carbah said.
She said the sheriff’s office is not releasing the victims’ names due to it being an active investigation with no suspect in custody.
The victims – driving a Toyota 4Runner – said the suspect was possibly driving a truck or an SUV, based on the size of the vehicle compared to their own, but no other details were provided.
Carbah said anyone who has information regarding the suspect is encouraged to call the investigations division at 749-7777.
