Yuba City woman pleads not guilty to vehicular manslaughter
Accused of making illegal U-turn, causing motorcyclist to collide with car
A Yuba City woman charged with vehicular manslaughter of a motorcyclist entered a not-guilty plea on Monday.
Archana Brar, 54, appeared for her arraignment in Sutter County Superior Court.
According to the criminal complaint, Brar is charged with a single felony count of vehicular manslaughter, related to an inci- dent in March.
She is also charged with an infraction count for making a U-turn in a business district.
Brar’s attorney, Roberto Marquez, entered not-guilty pleas for both counts.
Brar waived her right to a preliminary hearing and is scheduled in court on July 26 for a pretrial conference.
According to a Yuba City Police Department incident report, Brar made an illegal U-turn in a 2015 Acura RDX on Walton Avenue in Yuba City, south of Highway 20.
Brar attempted to make a U-turn onto northbound Walton Avenue across double yellow lines when a motorcyclist traveling southbound broadsided the vehicle.
The motorcyclist died later from injuries suffered in the accident.
Shawna Pavey, public information officer for Yuba City Police Department, said the department is not allowed to disclose the identity of the victim after they are deceased.
A dozen family members of the victim were present in court Monday.
