Plenty of reaction to stories from a very newsy day

lease to operate the hospital, which was shuttered last year after a long economic struggle.

According to the county counsel, ASH board chairman Dr. Gurpreet Singh told the county he wouldn’t be proceeding with the deal. So the county planned on taking the hospital back and looking for a deal with another healthcare provider. But wait … When our reporter started calling around Wednesday morning to follow up on the story, there was another tune being whistled. She started out talking to a public relations person who hadn’t heard the news – in fact, they were working on business cards for people who would be working at the Colusa facility.

And people who have a future staked to the re-opening were clamoring on social media that they’d heard nothing about the deal falling through and they were still expecting to have jobs.

It wasn’t very long Wednesday morning before ASH management realized it needed to jump into action. While the board chairman had perhaps spoken ardently (over, it seems, whether the company could acquire the property from the county at no cost instead of leasing it), there had been no intention of delivering an actual ultimatum, they said.

The deal is still on and moving ahead, they added. Company officials were on their way to Colusa to make up and to give a tour of the work already done on the hospital and equipment already moved on site.

However this particular episode works out, we hope all ends well. It’s a scary proposition to be so far away from a medical facility and emergency room. Colusa needs that facility re-opened.
