River searched for man

A wildfire north of Bangor injured six people, destroyed at least 10 structures and quickly grew to more than 1,000 acres on Friday, according to CalFire inci- dent command.

The incident area is just northwest of Yuba County, with foothills residents in Dobbins and Oregon House reporting seeing a lot of ash come their way.

The Wall Fire started at 2:50 p.m. light today.

Emergency personnel received a call at 7:12 p.m. about a drowning victim near the Feather River Parkway who had gone under while swimming, Yuba City Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Stoddard said.

Stoddard could not confirm the identity or age of the victim, but multiple witnesses and scanner traffic indicated it was a 21year-old man.

Emergency personnel lined on Chinese Wall Road, about 5 miles north of Bangor and about 10 miles west of Brownsvill­e. The Yuba County Office of Emergency Services said it was keeping a close eye on the situation just miles from both the Marysville and Yuba City sides of the river as boats and personal watercraft searched the river; the concentrat­ion of the search was near the concrete pillars of the 10th Street bridge.

The sight and smell of smoke made its way to Sutter County by Friday night.

But the biggest impact so far has been in Butte County, where dozens of homes were evacuated.

Evacuation­s were first ordered on Swedes Flat Road between Chinese Wall Road and HurletonSw­edes Flat Road, and on Hurleton-Swedes Flat Road from Grand Oak Drive.

By 6 p.m. the fire had crossed Hurleton-Swedes Flat Road and the evacuation area was expanded to include the areas along Black Bart Road, Grand Oaks Drive and Forbestown Road.

Residents along Robinson Mill Road were warned to be ready to evacuate. Forbestown Road from Hurleton Road to Old Forbestown Road were also under evacuation warning as of 8 p.m.

An emergency shelter opened at 5:30 p.m. at the Church of Nazarene, 2238 Monte Vista Ave. in Oroville.

Small animals can be taken to Old County Hospital, 2279 Del Oro and Mono, Suite E in Oroville while large animals can find shelter at Camelot Equestrian Park, 1985 Clark Road in Paradise.

Ground crews, air tankers and helicopter­s were all at work on the blaze.

Swedes Flat Road is closed between Oro Bangor Highway and Hurleton-Swedes Flat Road. Forbestown Road is closed from Hurleton Road to Lumpkin Road.
