LITTLE LEAGUE: PB, Sutter Area win

The locals opened the tournament Friday with an 11-1, fourinnng victory against Modoc as Reese Soucek had three hits and both Madison Schamanski and Maia Spallino had RBI doubles. Makala Schamanski finished with seven strikeouts while pitching a two-hitter.

Minor Baseball Peach Bowl 10, Olivehurst-Linda 9

Sutter Area 10, Wheatland 9 Host Peach Bowl eliminated Olivehurst-Linda from the District 2 All-Stars Tournament thanks to an offense led by Jacob Desmond (3 for 3, double, two RBI, two stolen bases) and Julian Garcia (2 for 3, game-tying grand slam homer, double). Also, Niko Ibarra had a hit and an RBI.

Leading Olivehurst-Linda were Brody Miller (2 for 4, two RBI, two runs), Jaden Upton (two RBI) and Nathan Hock (1 for 3, three runs, two RBI).

Sutter-Area used a walk-off, RBI single by Mason McCall (2 for 4) to knock out Wheatland. Other Sutter Area standouts included Jered Reische with two RBI, two runs and a double, William Karter Johnson with three runs and Haden Azevedo with a run and three stolen bases.

Wheatland’s Daniel Panteloglo­w had a homer and a double, scored twice and knocked in three runs. His brother Damien Panteloglo­w also had three RBI. Ethan Bartolomei added a double and an RBI.

Peach Bowl and Sutter Area were scheduled to play eliminatio­n games Monday against North Yuba and Sutter Buttes, respective­ly. The winners of those games meet today in another win-or-go-home affair, while Westshore and Marysville square off today in the winner’s bracket final. Both games start at 6 p.m.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Thursday or Friday, depending on whether a winnertake-all final is necessary.
