Rebecca Ramirez is being recognized for her ability to connect with people of all ages as the Yuba County Probation 2017 Officer of the Year.

The Yuba City native joined the department in 2007 as a probation aide while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Chico State. In 2012, she was promoted to a deputy probation officer.

Ramirez has supervised adults and juveniles and has prepared sentencing reports for Yuba County Superior Court.

In 2016, Ramirez was assigned as the probation and schools success officer at Lindhurst High School. On two occasions, according to her bio provided by the department, Ramirez noticed troubling behavior among female students; in which she learned they were both victims of sexual abuse.

In one case, the girl was being trafficked by an adult who lived in a nearby county. The girl received help and the man was arrested for trafficking multiple girls. In the second case, the girl confided in Ramirez that she was being sexually abused by her stepfather. After Ramirez intervened, the stepfather was sent to prison.

“In all assignments, Rebecca brings enthusiasm and a positive attitude that is contagious,” according to the write-up. “The community can be assured of the tremendous job Rebecca does in keeping them safe.”
