Re: Solar panel warning

-

Seniors (and non-seniors) should beware of the various telephone calls selling solar panels.

These suede shoe operators persuade the gullible homeowner to listen to their spiel regarding money savings from reduced utility billing and credits offered from state and federal governments.

In many instances the homeowner signs a purchase order at exorbitant pricing while unknowingly placing a mortgage lien against their property.

Before purchasing, leasing or renting solar panels check with your utility company regarding the reasonable price on a kilowatt basis.

Local businesses sell and install this equipment and are generally available after the blue shoe operators have disappeared.

Beware, beware, beware.

Philip Treanor I can still drive when I’m 88. I suspect many of you would not want to be on the road when I’m driving at that age. Yet, some of you out there think it is perfectly OK for me to have a gun? I do not understand this.

My army training was with the M-1 rifle and the M-1 carbine, both of which were illegal for civilians to own. Wednesday a young man used an AR-15 to kill high school students. Perhaps a background check may not have prevented this, but it might prevent the next assault.

Consider that we have no more mentally ill, proportionately, than any other nation, yet we have a disproportionate number of gun deaths. Consider also that we have had over a dozen school shootings this year. After every episode it seems that it is “not the time” to talk about things, let alone do anything. When will that time come, if not now? It seems to me that although it may not be a cure-all, we may take a small step towards stopping some of the bloodshed by requiring a check. For those of you who see this small step as a giant leap to take your gun away, I can only say that that is not my intent. But I also ask you, sincerely, what is the need for an assault weapon if not for assaulting?
