Colusa, Gridley boys finish perfect in league

Senior sharpshoot­er Will Kalisuch knocked down three 3-pointers while pouring in a game-high 30 points, and Colusa High’s boys basketball team completed a perfect run through the Sacramento Valley League with a 70-37 victory over Winters on Friday night in Yolo County.

Tylor Gerrard added 10 points and Conner Saso tacked on seven more for the Redhawks, who took a commanding 24-9 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back while cruising to their 11th straight win.

Colusa (22-4, 8-0 SVL) figures to be the No. 2 seed in Division V when the Northern Section brackets are released today.

Gridley 45, Wheatland 20 In Gridley – The Bulldogs continued their winning ways by jumping out to a 16-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and coasting to an easy Butte View League victory over the Pirates on senior night at Farmer’s Hall.

Tyler Little dropped in a game-high 23 points, and Randy Miller finished with nine points and six rebounds to lead the way for Gridley, which posted its 12th straight win to cap off a perfect run through the BVL.

The Bulldogs (21-5, 10-0) should be the top-seeded team in Division IV when the Northern Section playoff brackets are released today.

The Yuba College men’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season in impressive fashion on Friday night, blowing the game open in the second half en route to an easy 84-59 Bay Valley Conference victory over Mendocino on Friday night in Ukiah.

The 49ers knocked down 13 3-pointers as a team and saw plenty of playing time for everyone to extend their winning streak to 14 games heading into the California Community College Athletic Associatio­n playoffs.

“(Mendocino) played inspired in the first half, but we just came out in the second half and wore them down,” said Yuba coach Doug Cornelius. “All 13 players got playing time, which was nice. It was a good game for us to end on and get ready for the playoffs.”

On a night where the starters saw limited action, Jeryn Lucas finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and Elishja Duplechan scored 16 points to go with six assists to lead the way in the victory. Jashon Lewis added 14 points, six rebounds and four assists, Thomas Austerfjor­d had 11 points and six rebounds, and Isaiah Bates chipped in with six points and three blocks in the blowout.

The 49ers ended the regular season 23-5 overall and 15-1 in BVC play to take home the conference title. They will find out their playoff opponent when the brackets are released on Monday.

“It’s do or die time now,” Cornelius said.

Tanner Mcadams scored 10 points for Wheatland (4-19, 0-10), which finished without a league win for the second straight year.

Sutter 47, Orland 44 In Sutter – Sophomore Ayden Hursky recorded a double-double with 14 points, 16 rebounds and a pair of blocks as the Huskies edged the Trojans for a BVL victory to conclude their season.

Brad Smith chipped in with nine points and five rebounds, Austin Peterson had eight points and 10 rebounds, and Taylor Smith finished with eight points and four rebounds to help the cause for Sutter in the win.

It was the final game of the season for the Huskies (5-21, 3-7), who decided to opt out of the Northern Section playoffs.

In the junior varsity game, four Sutter players scored in double digits en route to a 62-54 win over Orland. Casey Becker led the team with 19 points, Irvin Raju was close behind with 18, Eli Carlos had 14 and Isaiah Martinez finished with 11 for the Huskies (917, 3-7).

The Huskies’ freshman team also earned a 42-37 victory behind 15 points from Aryan Sharma. Kyle Watson scored 11 points and Gaven Gardner had 10 for Sutter (7-18, 4-6).

Hamilton 62, East Nicolaus 47 In Hamilton City – The Spartans cut a 22-point deficit down to six in the third quarter, but ran out of gas in the end to suffer a Mid-valley League loss to the Braves in their final regular season game.

David Earhart led East Nicolaus with 14 points, and Chris Miller and Weston Dunbar drained three 3-pointers each while finishing with 11 and nine points, respective­ly. Cole Mccray also came down with 13 rebounds in the loss.

East Nicolaus (11-14, 4-5) will discover its playoff opponent today.

Durham 70, Williams 59 In Williams – The Yellowjack­ets fell behind 22-7 in the first quarter, and although they tied the game in the third, they were unable to complete the comeback in a MVL loss to the Trojans to conclude the regular season.

Cesar Lopez hit five 3-pointers while scoring a team-high 19 points, and Anthony Davalos added 14 more to lead the way for Williams (15-10, 3-6). Sacramento Waldorf 68, New Life Christian 31 In Fair Oakes – The No. 13-seeded Crusaders saw their season come to an end with a loss to the No. 4 Waves in the opening round of the Sac-joaquin Section Division VI playoffs.

No informatio­n was provided by New Life, which finished the year 15-9 overall.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Willows 71, Live Oak 39 In Willows – The Lions’ hopes for a share of the SVL title were squashed early in a loss to the champion Honkers in the regular-season finale.

Leslie Fregoso scored a team-high 16 points and Meliah Eller added seven points for Live Oak (15-7, 6-2), which settled for second place.

Hamilton 53, East Nicolaus 35 In Hamilton City – Tiara Ceasar and Jane Menigoz scored nine points each, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the Spartans in an MVL loss to the Braves to end the regular season.

Ceasar finished with seven points, five steals and two assists, Menigoz had five rebounds, and Hannah O’connor chipped in with five points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for East Nicolaus (16-9, 4-5).
