49er baseball continues winning ways
Yuba College’s baseball team picked up its fourth straight win with a 6-4 nonconference victory over College of the Siskiyous on a cold Tuesday night at Colusa Casino Stadium in Marysville.
The 49ers finished the game with only six hits, but they made each one of them count.
Trailing 3-1 after 3½ innings, Yuba tied the game with two runs in the fourth and scored again in the seventh to take a 4-3 lead. The Niners added two more insurance runs in the eighth to up the margin to 6-3 before allowing a single run in the ninth.
Joe Ramos finished 2 for 3 and knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, and Dareon Thompson doubled and drove in two runs to lead the offense. Bear Belding added an RBI triple, Mike Shoenberger went 1 for 3 with two stolen bases and a run scored, and Hayden Reyna added an RBI as well to round out the leaders.
Zach Terry pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning to record the win in relief. Justin Smith surrendered one run in the ninth before closing it out to earn the save.
It was the finale of an 11-game homestand for Yuba (8-5), which will make only its second road trip of the season when it travels to Rocklin to take on Sierra College on Friday at 1 p.m.
BASKETBALL 49ers announce ticket prices Yuba College’s athletic program has announced the ticket prices for Saturday night’s California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball playoff game.
The prices, set by the CCCAA, are $12 for general admission and $8 for children under the age of 12 and seniors ages 60 and older. Conference, staff, complimentary or parent booster passes will not be honored.
The game will pit the Bay Valley Conference champion and No. 3-seeded 49ers (23-5) against the winner of tonight’s playoff opener between No. 14 Ohlone (15-14) and No. 19 West Valley (1513). The doors will open at 6 p.m. with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
