Superintendent: ‘No threat’ to Sutter Union High School
Rumors of a threatening message about Sutter Union High School were just that: rumors, said the school’s top official on Friday.
“We’ve been dealing with a lot of here-say and hysteria today, which is understandable given everything that has been happening,” said Superintendent Ryan Robison. “There is no specific threat to our students or school. That being said, we are treating everything seriously and thoroughly vetting information we receive with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.”
School administrators were made aware of a potential threat referencing “SHS” Thursday morning. Robison said school officials and law enforcement worked quickly to evaluate the message, which was determined to not be a threat.
He said the same message referencing a threat to an “SHS” was circulating in the Sacramento area on Thursday as well, causing some concern with parents and school administrators.
“Every situation we evaluate thoroughly; there’s not a lot of wiggle room in these situations,” he said. “We’ve just been telling parents, ‘if you see something or hear something, say something.’ People are nervous right now, and that’s understandable.”
Robison said the school attendance was down by about 25 percent on Friday.
Other than the rumors that have been circulating and the relatively low attendance, Robison said the school was operating as if it was “business as usual.” Business hours: Monday-friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Main number .................... Steve Miller ...................... Andrew Cummins .............
