Aldon Smith, who reportedly was involved in a domestic violence incident with his fiancee over the weekend, was released by the Raiders on Monday.

Smith checked himself into a rehabilitation facility while he was being sought by San Francisco police after he fled the scene when his fiancee called 911 on Saturday night. She reported to a police dispatcher around 8:30 p.m. that Smith was beating her up at her residence in the 600 block of Bush Street.

San Francisco police said the victim had non-life-threatening injuries.

“I’m scared for his life with his addiction,” his fiancee told TMZ before she and her parents helped Smith get treatment at a rehab facility.

According to TMZ, Smith proposed to his girlfriend of four months at a San Francisco restaurant just nine days ago.

Smith, who rose to fame as a Pro Bowl pass rusher for the 49ers before multiple off-field incidents led to his release and subsequent signing with Oakland in 2015, has had numerous off-field incidents the past four years and is still serving an NFL suspension.

Almost one year ago, Smith was charged with public intoxication following an accident in which his then-girlfriend hit a police car while driving Smith’s SUV. At that time, Smith conducted a bizarre interview with the media following an incident last March 9.

His Raiders career consisted of nine games during the 2015 season. During 530 snaps in Silver & Black, Smith had 28 total tackles and 3.5 sacks for the 7-9 Raiders. He was suspended on Nov. 17 that year for one calendar year. But the outside linebacker’s continued battles with alcohol led to more trouble and the NFL had turned down his efforts for reinstatement.

Smith hasn’t played for the Raiders in more than two years, but the one-year contract he signed on April 4, 2016 would have been valid should he ever have been reinstated by the NFL. Oakland Raiders Aldon Smith sits on the bench during the second half of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Oakland on Sept. 13, 2015.
