Care package fundraiser set for this Saturday

-

A local military family support group will host a care package fundraiser Saturday at the Sutter County Veterans Memorial Hall.

For more than a decade, the Tricounties Blue Star Moms, a chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America, has been fundraising for troops all over the world. This year they plan to ship more than 500 packages and raise funds for the postage.

“We appreciate the continued support of our military and our organization,” the group said.

The doors will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Sutter County Veterans Memorial Hall at 1425 Veterans Memorial Circle, Yuba City. Items needed:

Snack items like instant oatmeal, granola and protein bars, trail mix, nuts, peanut butter, crackers and instant ramen soup.

Hygiene items are needed, including travel-size shampoo, body wash, lotions, toothbrushes, solid stick deoderant, razors and smaller size foot powders.

The public is welcome to a fundraising barbecue featuring tri-tip and chicken from Big O’s BBQ on Saturday evening. Tickets are available online or at the memorial hall door for $25 per person. Children under the age of 6 are free.

There are many other ways to ensure a safe ride home besides relying on a friend.

The OTS DDVIP app is now available for free download on IOS and Android devices. The app offers enhanced features, allowing users to search all participating bars and restaurants throughout California. Additionally, the app users can easily order a sober ride from Uber, Lyft or Curb.

Have a friend who is about to drink and drive? Take the keys away and make arrangements to get them home safely.

Always remember to report drunk drivers – call 911.

This enforcement effort is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The next DUI campaign is set for Cinco de Mayo.
