Indians overwhelm Blazers, twice

Blazers’ softball gets first win of season, 21-0

By the end of two games and 13 innings played, the Marysville High baseball team left little doubt as to where it stands in its rivalry with Lindhurst.

The Indians swept the Golden Empire League double-header over the Blazers 9-0 in the first game and 10-0 in the second game, both played on Marysville’s home field on Monday.

In the first game, Morgun Goss and John Flores combined to give up only a pair of hits and three walks, while striking out 16 batters through seven innings.

Goss helped his cause with a 2-for-4 performanc­e with two runs and a RBI.

The Indians’ Job Stout was 2 for 4 with two doubles and a RBI, while Dominic Crabtree was 2 for 4 with a RBI.

Andrew Rodriguez and Daniel Yanez had the Blazers’ two hits.

Gabriel Rosas pitched well for the Blazers in the first game, going 5 1/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts and five earned runs.

In the six-inning second game, the Indians’ pitching duo of Devon Conway and Stout combined for eight strikeouts and allowed two hits and three walks.

The Indians took advantage of multiple errors and 10 walks in the lopsided win.

Ben Whitlock, Goss and Seth Pyse each had one hit and scored one run a piece for the Indians.

Lindhurst’s Rodriguez went 4 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and allowed three earned runs. At the plate, Rodriguez doubled. Yanez had a single in the loss.

Marysville (6-0, 3-0) hosts Mesa Verde today before heading to Lindhurst (0-4, 0-3) on Wednesday.

Colusa 7, Esparto 1 In Esparto – Christian Lyss was perfect at the plate, a trio of pitchers held Esparto to three hits and the Redhawks have now won four-straight games.

Lyss was 3 for 3 with a double and had two RBI, while Ray Frias was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs, and Blake Steidlmaye­r was 1 for 1 with three walks.

The same exact cast of characters combined for seven innings of work, with Steidlmaye­r getting the win after pitching three innings with five strikeouts, one walk and one hit surrendere­d.

Frias also went three innings and had the team’s only earned run, while striking out one and allowing a walk and a hit.

Lyss closed out the game with one inning of work and struck out one.

Colusa (6-2) travels to the American Christian Academy Tournament in Citrus Heights on Thursday.

River City, 5, River Valley In Yuba City – Jalen Dulai pitched a solid seven innings, but the Falcons managed only one hit and have now lost seven-straight games.

Dulai struck out five, gave up four walks and three hits. Errors played a big factor in the loss, as the junior pitcher was charged only two runs.

Jacob Shackelfor­d had the sole hit in a game where the Falcons left six men left in scoring position on the base paths.

River Valley (1-7, 0-4) travels to River City on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL Lindhurst 21, Mesa Verde 0, 5 innings In Mesa Verde – The Blazers’ first win of the season came on a night where they scored 13 runs in the top half of the first inning.

By the end of the 45-minute half inning, the Blazers were well on their way to a win.

For security sake, Danika Martin pitched a five-inning shutout with 10 strikeouts and three hits allowed.

Marissa Tracey led the team with a 2-for-4 performanc­e, a double and three RBI, while fellow sophomore Mattie Cheever was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBI.

BOYS TENNIS Pioneer 8, Yuba City 1 In Yuba – Diego Moreno won in three sets for the Honkers’ sole win on the afternoon, as they team dropped to .500 in TCC play.

Yuba City (2-2) travel o Rio Linda Thursday.

Co-ed Tennis Lindhurst 9, Mesa Verde 0 In Mesa Verde – The Blazers swept through Mesa Verde, who had to forfeit all of its boys’ matches on the afternoon.

On the girl side, the singles winners were: Kristin Vang (6-1, 6-0) and Mariia Zvereva (60, 6-0). Doubles winners were: Alexia Velasquez and Aylin Zaragoza (6-0, 6-0), and Daisha Lor & Annie Yang (6-0, 6-0). In its mixed doubles win, Steven Demesa and Veronica Cortez won by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Lindhurst (7-1, 5-0) hosts Dixon today.

BOYS GOLF RV takes first at its own invite;

YC takes fifth Linda – Andrew Davidson shot a 75 for a first-place finish and the Falcons won their own River Valley Invitation­al at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club.

In addition to Davidson’s first-place performanc­e, the Falcons’ Riley Bell shot a 76 for second place and Trey Davis shot a 78 for fourth. The trio of top-five individual finishes allowed River Valley to finish with a 403, well ahead of second-place Del Oro, which shot a 429.

Guramrit Ghoman shot an 85 and Cole Norton shot an 85 for the Falcons.

Yuba City came in fifth place after shooting a 534, with Christian Peneda leading the squad with an 83.

River Valley hosts Woodland today at Peach Tree.

SWIMMING Marysville takes boys and girls competitio­n against Lindhurst Varsity Boys Marysville 69, Lindhurst 60 Lindhurst’s Kenneth Gaither finished in first place in the 50-yard freestyle (28.78 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (1:10.00 minutes), while Calvin Yang finished in first place in the 200-yard (2:51.90 min) and the 500-yard freestyle (7:58.79 min).

Lindhurst’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Eduardo Borja, Austin Yang, Andrew Xiong and Kenneth Gaither took first place (2:17.25 min). The 400-yard freestyle relay team also took first (5:22.11 min), and was composed of Borja, Austin Yang, Calvin Yang, and Gaither.

Varsity Girls Marysville 133, Lindhurst 26 Lindhurst’s Noelia Quintero finished second in the 100-yard breaststro­ke (2:00.56 min), Araceli Rodriguez placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:35.45 min), Cecilia Lopez took third in the 200-yard freestyle (4:11.99 min).

TRACK & FIELD YC competes in a pair of tournament­s over the weekend The Honkers traveled to the 80th annual Lefebvre Relays event held on a cold, wet day at Placer High School on Friday.

The varsity girls 4x100 meter team of Camitriss Bui, Summarah Bluett, Julissa Orejel, and Valentina Hernandez ran 53.46 seconds to take first place.

The varsity boys sprint medley relay team of Tanner Paxton, Jovani Duenas, Jacob Mcdermott, and Dimitri Rodriguez placed 6th with a time of 1:56.68 minutes.

On Saturday, the Honkers were among 40 competitor­s at the Husky Invitation­al at Sheldon High School in Elk Grove.

Keron Blackwell won the varsity high jump with a height of 6 foot 2 inches.

Rogan Rongley ran a personal best in the varsity boys 800m with a time of 2:21.71 minutes.

For the varsity girls 4x100m, the team of Yasmeen Lopez, Olah Coker, Simreen Virk, and Emma Nelson placed 17th with a time of 55.17 seconds. Lopez also recorded a 15.12 seconds in the 100m for 17th place.

Hannah Owens placed 16th and Alexah Owens 20th (52.69 sec and 55.29 sec, respective­ly) in the 300m hurdles.
