Deputies arrest third suspect in Olivehurst shooting

A third Olivehurst man and suspected gang member has been arrested in connection with a Tulsa Avenue shooting last month.

Sergio Mendoza, 19, was arrested by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies spotted a group of people walking away from the scene and arrested Ricardo Hernandez, 20, who was allegedly in possession of a handgun. A second suspect, Ruben Blajos, 24, was arrested the next day. The three men are suspected Sureño gang members, according to the department.

Mendoza was booked into Yuba County Jail on suspicion of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and promoting or assisting a criminal street gang. Bail was set at $300,000.

Hernandez and Blajos remain in Yuba County Jail with $250,000 bail and are facing charges of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, participat­ing in a criminal street gang, and several enhancemen­ts. Hernandez is facing an additional charge of carrying a concealed firearm. Both were arraigned Feb. 28 where they pleaded not guilty. Their next appearance is April 4.

An arraignmen­t for Mendoza is not yet scheduled.
